Is it Time to See a Cardiologist?

Your heart is the engine of your body. While a physician can manage general health, certain "red flags" or risk factors require the specialized expertise of a Cardiologist.

 Symptoms

If you are experiencing new or recurring physical discomfort, don't ignore it. You should book an appointment if you notice:

  • Chest Pain or Pressure: Especially discomfort that radiates to the neck, jaw, or arms.

  • Shortness of Breath: Feeling unusually winded during light activity or while resting.

  • Irregular Heartbeat: Sensations of fluttering, racing, or "skipped" beats (palpitations).

  • Fainting or Dizziness: Unexplained lightheadedness or loss of consciousness.

  • Swollen Legs: Persistent swelling in the feet or ankles (edema).

Preventive Care

Prevention is the best medicine. Consider a consultation if any of the following apply to you:

  • High Blood Pressure or Cholesterol: If these numbers remain high despite basic lifestyle changes.

  • Diabetes: Diabetics are at a significantly higher risk for silent heart disease.

  • Family History: If a parent or sibling experienced heart issues at an early age.

  • History of Smoking: To assess the long-term impact on your arteries.

 Specialized Evaluation

Cardiac evaluation in helpful to identify conditions early to prevent emergency events

  • Pre-Exercise Clearance: Before starting a high-intensity fitness regime (especially if over age 40).

  • Post-Pregnancy Care: For those who experienced preeclampsia or gestational hypertension.

  • Chronic Kidney Disease: To monitor the strong link between kidney health and heart function.

Note: If you are currently experiencing crushing chest pain, numbness in the arm, or difficulty speaking, do not go to a clinic. Skip the appointment and rush straight to the Emergency Room or call emergency services of a tertiary care hospital immediately.
